Game Recap: January 23, 2010
The Grand Raggidy Roller Girls hosted the Fort Wayne Derby Girls in a season opener that was action-packed and full of suspense! The first matchup was the G-Rap Attack versus the Fort Wayne SWAT Team. For many G-Rap Attack skaters, this was their first game and they really showed what they were made of. The Attack and SWAT Team came out swinging, taking turns racking up points in the first half. Near the end of the first half, The SWAT Team had several grand slams, making the Attack trail by 38 points.
In the second half, The Attack showed the both their tenacity and heart and the score definitely reflected that. The G-Rap Attack continued to put points up on the board but in the end it just wasn’t enough. The Fort Wayne SWAT Team proved to be a worthy competitor, winning 118-73. The Attack left the track with smiles on their faces because regardless of what the score said, they played hard, had fun and are looking forward to a rematch!
The second bout of the evening was a battle to the end as the GRRG All Stars went toe stop to toe stop against the hard hitting Fort Wayne Bomb Squad. These teams were evenly matched throughout the first half. Each jammer volleyed for points until the 13th jam when the All Stars powered through the pack to score 14 points! The Bomb Squad answered back with some high scoring jams of their own for the remainder of the half and took the lead 38-36.
That, however, was the last time they would see the lead as the All Stars stole the lead back and kept it! The All Stars kept scoring with the help from their blockers. The Bomb Squad continued to rack up points until the very end and nearly came back during the last jam by scoring 16 points. With no time left on the clock, the final score was 107-101. It was a close competitive game until the very last jam and All Stars came out of it victorious.
