Mitten State Match-up! Saturday, May 2, 2009.
May in Grand Rapids at Rivertown Sports brings the annual roller derby Mitten State Match-up for Grand Rapids and Detroit. This is the first year we’ll be bringing you a jam packed double header with 2 teams from each city.
Each year the All Stars has closed gap on their 3 losses; 2006 by -67 in Detroit, 2007 in Grand Rapids by -18 and 2008 in Detroit by -12. Both teams will be be coming off some hard fought losses and nice wins this season. Detroit has seen a lot of recent interleague experience with the similar roster, while your Grand Raggidy skaters have a lot of fresh faces on the Stars this year. The G-Rap Attack looks forward to have their first go against the Motor City Disassembly Line. How will it match up in 2009?

MAP TO EVENT
Most Valuable Member
Jackie Daniels: The woman, the myth, the legend. Renowned for her speedy jams and hard blocks, Jackie Daniels (or JD, as her derby sisters affectionately know her) has helped to bring national recognition to Grand Raggidy and local attention to the league she so passionately loves. Though widely known for her on-track, larger-than-life persona and skate skills, she is just as vital - if not more so - off the track as league President and derby ambassador extraordinare. A vital part of GRRG since the beginning days, JD logs countless hours - often at the expense of living her own, non-derby life - behind the scenes to ensure the league’s continued success. She is an LLC member, Co-Captain of the All-Stars team, a WFTDA Rep and she helps with many committees for the league such as the Rules and Training and Merchandise committees. A derby girl to the core, Jackie Daniels is truly everyone’s favorite liqueur.

Grand Raggidy Roller Girls to be Guests at Final Griffins Home Game.
On April 10th, the four best things in Michigan will converge on Van Andel Arena as the Grand Rapids Griffins’ host their final home game of the regular season. These four things are #1) the Griffins, #2) the Stanley Cup, #3) $1 beers and hotdogs (from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.), and #4) the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls. So come on out and support your 2008 Stanley Cup champions, the Detroit Red Wings and your favorite roller girls, the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls, while also getting a chance to take photos with the world’s most famous sports trophy, Stanley Cup, in its only appearance in Grand Rapids all season.
To make the night even better (Can it really get better?), if you buy a $13 ticket from your Grand Raggidy Roller Girls, you’ll get a chance to sit in sections 207/208. What makes these sections so sweet? It’s where your Grand Raggidy Roller Girls will be sitting (or more likely standing) as they cheer on their favorite hockey team—the Griffs. And you’ll get to watch as between periods the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls get out onto the ice to promote the only sport as tough as hockey—roller derby—and the only sports team in western Michigan as tough as the Griffins—your Grand Raggidy Roller Girls.
Finally, there’s one more thing to make this night the best night (Okay, not better than a roller derby bout, but darn close.), you can buy a blue ($1) or green ($3) puck from your Grand Raggidy Roller Girls. Then when the time arrives you can participate in Throw for Dough for a chance to win $5,000.
Van Andel Arena doors open at 6:00 p.m. and hockey action starts at 7:00 p.m. as the Grand Rapids Griffins take on the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Ticket prices are $13 and can be purchased by calling 616-752-8475 or by emailing the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls at contact@grandraggidyrollergirls.com. But make sure you buy your tickets from a Roller Girl as part of the money raised from ticket sales goes to support Grand Raggidy.
